Seats
The majority of 3 wheel double buggies start life as single pushchairs, but some can convert to take a second seat or carrycot with adapters (these are usually more common in tandem buggies). You'll also find that some models will allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who wish to walk, but need a little help.
Take a look at the Joie Evalite Duo for a lightweight option perfect for city streets. It's easy to maneuver and has a deep basket with plenty of storage space. It can be used for twins beginning at birth and accepts two car seats or a carrycot with a seat. The seats must be facing towards the front and there is no space to store a shopping bag under the seat. You will need an additional side bag.
If you're looking to travel off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great option. It is a side by side model with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This makes it easier to pass through doors with narrow openings and on public transport, and also allows you to go up and down kerbs without much trouble. The adjustable handlebar comes with a handbrake for added security and safety.
Another lightweight choice is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used for twins or a toddler and baby. The seats come with multi-position recline and UPF 50+ sunshades while the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun from your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into triple by adding UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack’ board for older children.
The iCandy Orange is one of the most well-known double buggies available, thanks to its superb comfort. It is a true all-terrain pushchair with soft suspension to make light work of bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate up to 30 seating configurations and has an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older kids who prefer to walk, as well as a 'cinema' seating mode that raises the back seat to allow for better visibility.
Alternatively, the phil&teds dot is a fantastic single buggy from day 1 that is able to easily be adapted to take 2 (or 3!) Multiple configurations are possible. This is especially useful when you have a child in a car seat, since the frame can be equipped with a wedgie that allows for optimal lie-flat positioning, or car seat adapters for a wider range of brands.
Suspension
The suspension of a double 3 wheel buggy will determine the ease with which you and your child/children are able to push it. It is crucial to enjoy a smooth ride as babies can feel every bump in the road. This is particularly relevant if you drive on rough terrain such as grass or unpaved roads. Certain models also have locking front wheels to help with maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.
Some models have air-filled tyres that are great for all-terrain riding, but they are prone to punctures. Make sure you keep a spare set of tyres in your trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres, which are designed to take the bumps and are less prone to punctures however, you might find them to be a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back should you choose to jog.

"It glided effortlessly over grass and bumpy sidewalks cobbles, dirt, and tracks. It was also very easy for me to maneuver around corners and get up and down kerbs." Folding
A three-wheel double buggy could be folded in a neat manner to be stored. There are options that fold flat, stand up (as as if they were the form of a pushchair) and others that pop out to reveal a more umbrella-style folding, with the option of a hand-operated break. The more wheels a buggy is equipped with, in general the easier it will be to maneuver over rough terrain. This is especially true if your wheels are larger than average size. You will have more stability and it is less likely that you will have to flip or tip your child.
The most popular model is the iCandy Wave, which can be used from birth using an infant car seat. It then converts to a side-by-side double buggy when your child is old enough to allow them to be seated next to each one. It is a lightweight option that is simple to push. It also comes with a bumper bar and a raincover.
The phil&teds sports is another option. It is future-proof as it is brilliant as a buggy that can be altered to accommodate two (or three!) All of this is contained in its compact footprint. It is a clever three-wheel design with a sling for better manoeuvrability and stability.
